Lean Quote of the Day - January 29, 2009

On Friday’s I will post a Lean related Quote. Throughout our lifetimes many people touch our lives and leave us with words of wisdom. These can both be a source of new learning and also a point to pause and reflect upon lessons we have learned. Within Lean active learning is an important aspect on this journey because without learning we can not improve.

Feel free to share some of your favorites here as well.

It is not the employer who pays the wages. He only handles the money. It is the customer that pays the wages. ~Henry Ford, 1922

  1. Great quote Tim. One of the things that I took away from Today and Tomorrow was Ford's 'Wage Motive.' A lot of people try to justify everything in business on making a profit. Ford thought that the business should try to pay a high wage. That forced him to do a lot of things that eventually came to be called lean. If you think about the quote above, he is really saying that we need to keep people doing value added things. He was really ahead of his time. You can also find a lot of 'flow' and the description of some physical contact poka yokes in his books.
